Welcome to Mrs. Gaughf's Wiki

<img src="https://www.wikispaces.com/site/embedthumbnail/custom/10133441?h=0&w=0" class="WikiMedia WikiMediaCustom" id="wikitext@@media@@type="custom" key="10133441"" title="Custom Media"/>
Important Dates for Algebra 1

December 6, 2011 Fall Semester State Exam
May 2, 2012 Spring Semester State Exam

Welcome
I am looking forward to a great year. With your help there is no limit to what we can achieve. If you and your child sign the bottom of the last page and return it to me no later than Friday, five points will be added to the first test that is given.
Class Procedures
Procedures are part of everyday life. With out them everything would be chaos. The reason we have procedures in life is so that people can function knowing what is acceptable. These are the things that help life run smoother.
There are some procedures in this class. These procedures help establish the culture of the classroom and will make my life and your life so much easier.
Entering the classroom – when you enter the classroom, walk in quietly. Get your assigned calculator, go to your seat, get out materials, and get to work on your bellringer assignment.
Leaving my classroom – I will not allow you to leave my classroom unless you are called out. You can take care of business at break or during lunch.
Athletic Sheet -- If you are an athlete and need my signature, please place the sheet on my desk when you enter, I will sign the form near the end of the class period.
Bell ringer – The bellringers will be posted in the same area daily. You will come in the classroom, sit down, and begin working on it immediately. You will have FIVE minute to compete your work. The bellringers are graded on a weekly basis. I should never enter the classroom and find you sitting there wondering what to do.
Tardy -- Please do not interrupt my class. Please be on time for class. Refer to the tardy policy in the handbook.
End of period class dismissal – The bell does not dismiss my class. I dismiss the class. First make sure that you have returned your calculator to the correct slot. Next make sure that there is no debris on the floor, and you have all your belongings. Whenever I dismiss the class, you may exit my classroom. I do not allow you to stand at the door waiting for class to be dismissed. You will remain in your desk until I dismiss you.
Sharpening your pencil -- I prefer that you use a mechanical pencil. However, if you are using a pencil that needs to be sharpened, raise the pencil to indicate that you need to sharpen your pencil. I will acknowledge your request by the nod of my head, and you may leave your desk to sharpen your pencil. I ask that only one student at a time be at the sharpener.
Cell Phones and Ipods -- They will not be allowed to any extent. See student handbook
Coming to class without materials – If you do not have a pencil, I will exchange your student ID for one. When you return the pencil, I will return your student ID.
Passing in papers -- you will pass your paper toward the interwrite board. Once the papers reach the front of the row, I will collect them. I will staple all the papers together and put them in the basket to be graded.
Passing in TEST PAPERS: When you complete a test, you will place the completed test in the basket that is on the corner of my desk. There is absolutely no talking during testing. Talking while someone still has a test will result in a ZERO (even if you have already turned in your test).
Asking a question – You will raise your hand indicating that you wish to speak. I will not answer to “hey”, a snap, a clap, or any thing else of that nature.
When someone knocks on my door – Please do not yell out come in. I will tend to this task.
Whenever a guest enters my classroom – Please do not start talking to that person. You should stay focused on your task. I will address the guest.
Absentee slips – when a student is absent from my class, he/she must give me the admit slip from the office to be admitted to the class.
Cheating -- you will automatically receive a ZERO (0) for cheating.
Seating arrangements -- I will assign seats. Students will not move to another location unless directed by the teacher.
When you are absent – There will be a calendar on the wall near the front board, which will have daily assignments listed on it. If a handout sheet was given on the day that you were absent, you will find the sheet in the basket on the back table that is labeled, “Make up.” You will have the allotted amount of days designed in the handbook to complete the assignment and return it to me. Bellringers from the day that you are absent will be excused, only if the absent is excused.
Homework – Homework will be given on a regular basis, I try to give you time to get the work completed in class, but there many be time that you will have to finish up at home. Homework is practice, not punishment.
Going to the restroom – You will have one free bathroom pass per nine weeks. Please use the time between classes to go the restroom. If you do not have a restroom pass, you will have to spend 5 minutes of your morning break. If you have not used your pass at the end of the nine weeks, I will add 5 points to your exam test grade.

I will treat you like a young adult, only if you act like one. I believe in using “Old Fashion” manners. (Please, thank you, yes ma’am, no ma’am, yes sir, no sir) and expect you to use them also.
If you CHOOSE not to follow the procedures, the following consequences will occur.
1. Warning
2. Break detention and I will notify your legal guarding. (If you are involved in
extracurricular activities I will notify your coach/instructor. If you do not show
up for detention a referral will be written.)
3. Referral – IF an offense is severe, the student will be sent directly to the office.
Thank you,
Rhonda Gaughf
